Mgr. Bára Komárková: Synthesis of nanotitania with tailored properties via peroxo-amino titanates for photocatalytic applications

Nanotitania prepared after annealing of peroxo-titanic acid shows unique photocatalytic activity exceeding performance of commercial P25 photocatalyst. Modified synthesis of the peroxo-titanic precursor with various amines allows to control properties of annealed TiO2 which are closely related to its photoactivity. Impact of amines to the TiO2 properties (crystallite size, ratio of anatase and rutile phase) was studied in combination of in situ HT-XRD and TA, morphological features were described with SEM, TEM and AFM, and photocatalytic degradation with model pollutant 4-chlorophenol. This work was carried out by support of NanoEnviCz project within cooperation with Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the CAS and the project will be introduced during the lecture.

Doc. RNDr. Václav Slovák, Ph.D.: Facile synthesis of carbon monoliths with hierarchical porosity

An easy synthesis of carbon monoliths with hierarchical porosities is presented combining sol-gel condensation and soft-templating. By varying the synthesis conditions, purely microporous or micro-mesoporous or micro-meso-macroporous carbon materials were obtained. While micropores and mesopores arise during the carbonization, macropores formation occurs during the gelling step through a controlled macroscopic phase separation process. Textural properties were investigated by a group of techniques: TEM, CO2 and N2 sorption, Hg porosimetry and SAXS. The benefit of the different porosities was evidenced by studying adsorption kinetic of phenol and methylene blue aqueous solutions. It was found that mesopores are crucial for a fast transport of adsorptive into the adsorption sites (micropores/smaller mesopores) while the additional presence of macropores further accelerates the rate of sorption for both adsorptives.
